Architecture
and India might go back a long way but the rise of architecture institutes has
seen a surge in the past few decades. Although the number of such institutes is
spread well across India, South India has seen a considerable increase in the
number of B.Arch colleges. Architecture, as a degree depends largely on not
just academics but a well-balanced calendar, which gives equal practical and

milestones in the sector. While NITTE University, in its totality has set a
mark for its chain of colleges NIA stands out as one of the best architecture colleges in Karnataka. The college was established by Justice Kowdoor
Sadananda Hegde. NITTE has been accredited under All India Council for
Technical Education, after rigorous examining.
NITTE
has been known for its unique approach to education, wherein they have time and
again highlighted the importance of extracurricular, alongside academics. They
do not believe in confining the students to a rigorous curriculum, but instead
encourage them to initiate ventures which extend beyond it. The university
focuses majorly on the aspect of social responsibility, wherein they encourage
their students to not contribute to the society in their own way, in their
respective professions.
The
institute believes in approaching education from a different viewpoint and
believes in promoting an exploratory perspective to architecture. The course

Among
the various unique visions of the college, one is its goal of sustainable
development. They believe in architecture, in sync with sustainable
growth through an immersive method of teaching. Hence, they have adapted the
concept of LEED (Leadership is Energy and Environmental Design) framework,
which has a global outreach. Another notable feature of the program is the
concept of cooperative learning, which extends beyond classroom learning and
allows the students to experience the real world. This contributes in polishing
their skills and getting acquainted with the ways of the professional
world.
Alongside
all of this, they also organize various in-campus design, with the aim of
projecting architecture not as a classroom bound subject but as one that
requires you to step out and participate. The colleges hosts quite a few
ventures to promote the same, such as Architecture and Environment Week. They
have also started the NIA Summer School, which strives to establish
architecture as an experience-based subject through diverse design and allied
domains.
With
a dedicated team of academicians working towards building capable, future who
have a more immersive approach to architecture, NIA has carved a niche for themselves
and have slowly secured the spot among the top 10 B.arch colleges in Karnataka.
