HOW TECHNOLOGY HAS CHANGED THE EDUCATION SYSTEM
Having grown up with easy access to technology, our generation is made up of digital natives who are very comfortable with the internet. We are used to being connected 24/7 via a variety of devices, including laptops, tablets, connected TVs, and smartphones. Andrew Kim, a researcher at Steel case Work Space Futures has been studying spatial implications of learning and technology and says, “Technology is changing the dynamics of education, especially the relationship between teachers and students. As educators begin to rethink the learning experience, we believe it will be important to also reshape educational spaces to support this evolution.”
Technology has widened opportunities for remote learning and collaboration. Face to
face learning in classrooms means handling physical infrastructural constraints, but today, technology makes undreamed-of ways of contact and cooperation possible. Increasing usage of laptops, tablets, and other mobile devices is one of the fastest-growing and persistent trends across educational levels. Many elementary schools now provide a laptop or tablet to each student. Most undergraduates now own tablets as well as laptops at colleges and universities. Also more and more content is being pushed onto mobile phones that allow students to be mobile and learn from everywhere.
Nitte Deemed to be University ensures that technology goes hand in hand with education. We have enabled interactive classroom learning to offer a smooth learning process to all students of Nitte (Deemed to be University). Our faculty is well versed with the latest trends and are trained to ensure that they are in sync with dynamic needs in digital classroom teaching and learning.
This has allowed us to adapt to the changes brought about by the ongoing global
pandemic, Nitte (Deemed to be University) has taken measures to ensure that learning is never paused.
1. Nitte (Deemed to be University) has expanded e-learning services to support students during the ongoing global pandemic. NUeLearn, the Learning
Management System at the University has been extended to Undergraduate
students of Medical, Dental, Pharmaceutical, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Biomedical
Sciences, Communication and Architecture courses as of April 1, 2020.
2. Postgraduate students will also profit from online learning opportunities.
creation and distribution of e-learning materials, communication and student interaction, online assessments, and student engagement monitoring. The platform for Blended Learning applications which has been in use since 2015 is
now being scaled up to provide all students with remote access to learning resources.
3. Students will be granted access to Self-Directed eLearning Modules for
asynchronous learning and will also engage in synchronous learning activities on
NUeLearn through Live Virtual Classrooms. A judicious combination of both approaches will be
implemented depending on requirements. An essential part
of eLearning programs would be an online evaluation.
4. The colleges and teaching faculty have been given online training in the use of
educational technology. They took an enthusiastic approach to the new
challenges and opportunities. Students and faculty can use http:/nitte.edu.in/nuelearn to login to NUeLearn
Technological progress has opened up different choices for us. Technology is part of
virtually all of our daily activities. From using technology to collecting data, to
"googling knowledge", we are constantly developing new methods to take advantage of technology. Nitte is regarded as one of the Best Universities in Karnataka, the reason being the unorthodox way of educating students. Not only do we focus on in-house teaching techniques, but we also believe in using technology and the internet to expand the scope and learning experience for our students. To transfer knowledge to students, lectures are essential, but one-sided discussions can become mundane. Presentations encourage students to learn by themselves and share the same experience with their classmates. This way students take the initiative to know and explore their understanding of the subject.
Nitte provides its students with state-of-the-art equipment for conducting work and
projects. We have the latest technologies at our fingertips to offer sophisticated,
practical training. There is no better way to understand science than by putting it into
practice. Research centres provide the means for students to explore and discover
their scientific and mathematical interests.
Nitte being a top university in Karnataka has set up research centres with the same objective. We have impressive laboratories in the fields of neurology, cancer, stem cell, biological sciences, not to mention the Institute for Animal Research & Experimentation
and the medical college's Central Research Lab. Technology is a necessity in today's
world and we must be ready for it.
Our vision of how to use technology can be expanded further. We are excited about
developing new educational technology and bringing about social change.
